The Very Best of Spring’s New Releases

April 3, 2019
spring

Spring is finally here … in theory. Living in Ohio, it’s really hard to tell since we have 3 inches of snow on the ground!  But no worries, this snow will be gone by tomorrow and we will enjoy warmer (for Ohio) temperatures again.

Another thing to enjoy is all the new books that are coming out!  Every time I open #bookstagram, I see all the wonderful reviews of new books that I simply can’t wait to read.  This is an exciting time for books, especially if you like thrillers. There seem to be a lot of good choices for those lately.

Here are 6 new releases that I can’t wait to get my hands on this spring:

The Invited by Jennifer McMahon

I actually just finished this one, and it was sooo good!  Nate and Helen move from urban Connecticut to rural Vermont to enjoy a simpler kind of life.  They quit their jobs, moved into a small trailer on a big piece of land, and began to build their dream house together.  But their idyllic property has a tragic past and when unexplained events start happening, Helen relies on her history teacher research skills to get to the bottom of it. She learns all about Hattie Breckenridge, a woman who lived and died on her property in somewhat horrific circumstances.  Is Hattie haunting Helen and Nate? And can they figure out why before it’s too late? This book had me sleeping with the light on. It’s one of the best ghost stories I’ve read in awhile!
This book is coming out on April 30. Check back for a full review coming soon!

Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Daisy Jones is an up and coming rock star in the late sixties, doing everything that up and coming rock stars do, when a producer decides that she should join forces with another up and coming band known as The Six.  Together, they make rock history. This book deals with love, loss and addiction, with a side order of old time rock and roll. It sounds like an amazing book! I have read so many great reviews on this book, I cannot wait to read it.

A Woman is No Man by Etaf Rum

Isra, a young Muslim woman, is forced to marry Adam, because her family still believes in traditional roles for women.  Adam moves her from Palestine to Brooklyn, where they start their family. Deya, her daughter, is born in America and doesn’t accept that now that she is a teenager, she is expected to marry a man her family has chosen for her.  This book alternates between Isra’s story and Deya’s story and shows how the more things change, the more they stay the same. This is another book that comes recommended by a number of good sources. I loved A Place for Us and am wondering if this is similar?  Stay tuned….

My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing

This thriller is about a gorgeous young married couple with everything going for them – good job, good friends, great kids, lots of money.  They have everything, except excitement. So to bring some excitement into their lives, they decide to murder people and try to get away with it.  This book sounds so intriguing! It was just released on March 26, so I’ve got a while before it comes in, but it sounds like the next Blockbuster!

The Night Olivia Fell by Christina McDonald

This book has been compared to Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight, which I absolutely loved, so I am sure that I will love this one as well.  Abi McKnight gets the phone call every mother dreads, her daughter has had an accident. She is brain dead, and pregnant.  Abi has to find out what happened to her beloved Olivia and she cannot rest until she knows the whole truth.

Before She Knew Him by Peter Swanson

Henrietta and her husband Lloyd settled outside of Boston to live a nice quiet life.  Henrietta, struggling with bipolar disorder, is fascinated by the unsolved murder of a local teenage boy.  She had a similar fascination with another crime in college, which led her to some bad ends. Now, in her new house, she begins to shake this new obsession until she meets her new neighbor, Matt.  Matt has a trophy in his study that belonged to the teenage boy. Is Matt a serial killer? Or is Henrietta spiraling back out of control? This thriller sounds like a winner to me! Can’t wait to read it!

These are 6 of the best new releases for spring.  Can’t wait for the next rainy day to sit and read them.

That’s all for today.  Thanks for visiting and until next time, happy reading!
