The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

Rating:  5 Stars *****

I just recently finished this book on audio and it was SO good!  If you like psychological thrillers with crazy plot twists, then this one is for you!

What It’s About:

Amber Patterson is a conniving, hard-hearted young woman who wants nothing more than the privileged and affluent life of Daphne Parrish, and she will do anything to get it.  Daphne and her husband Jackson Parrish, are the picture-perfect couple, they are deeply in love, have two beautiful children, a gorgeous house and everything that goes with it.  Amber slowly ingratiates herself to Daphne and her family so that she can get closer to Jackson.  Her goal:  to be the next Mrs. Parrish.

As Amber weaves her web of deception, secrets from her own past begin to come to light.  Will those secrets ruin her plans?

My Thoughts:

Amber is truly a character that you will love to hate.  She represents everything despicable about a human being.  She is only interested in her own welfare; she doesn’t care at all about lives ruined because of her.  She plots and schemes with the best of them!

But what really secured this as a 5 star read for me was the twist in the middle of the book that I truly did not see coming.  In the first half of the book, the reader hears  the story from Amber’s and Daphne’s perspectives.  In the second half of the book, we are offered a different perspective that completely changed where I originally thought the story was going!

I love books like that – ones that surprise me and keep me in suspense.  This was a fun book to listen to.  I highly recommend it!

Other Psychological Thrillers with Crazy Plot Twists You Won’t Want to Miss

Little Threats by Emily Schultz

Kennedy Wynn has just recently been released from a 15 year prison sentence for the murder of her best friend, Haley.  Kennedy was only a teenager, and under the influence of psychedelics, when the murder happened.  She can’t remember the night at all and isn’t even sure if she is guilty or not!  But when she returns home on parole, she begins to remember things about that night.  And as she and her sister begin to investigate, they find out truths that threaten to destroy their family all over again.

The Night Swim by Megan Goldin

Rachel Krall is a household name because of her popular true-crime podcast.  As her new season is about to start, Rachel travels to a small town to investigate a highly controversial rape trial involving the town’s golden boy – destined for Olympic fame, and a teenage girl.  While Rachel is getting ready for the trial, she begins to receive anonymous messages asking her to look into a murder that took place in that small town years ago.  Are these two crimes related?

Note:  This story contains rape scenes that some readers might find very disturbing.  There were parts that were very hard to read.

The Woman in the Window by AJ Finn

Anna Fox is a recluse – she hasn’t left her house in months.  Instead, she spends her time drinking wine, watching old movies and watching her neighbors.  Then, one day, she sees something she shouldn’t, or at least she thinks she did. Is it just the alcohol?  Or is something sinister going on across the street?

Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier

This book is on about 10 different lists for me because it is one of my all time favorites.  The narrator of the story is a nameless, mousey woman who falls in love with and marries a wealthy and influential man. His beautiful, perfect first wife, Rebecca, died in a boating accident only a year earlier and his new wife is finding it hard to compete with her memory.    Will the new couple find a way to make their marriage work?  Or will Rebecca’s ghost continue to haunt them both?

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

You can’t have a list of psychological thrillers with a plot twist without adding in Gone Girl!  Nick and Amy Dunne have been happily married for the last 5 years.  They just recently moved to a small town in Missouri.  One day, Amy disappears without a trace.  As the police investigate, they find hidden diaries that point to Nick as a probable suspect.  Was their happy marriage a lie?  Is Nick really responsible for his wife’s disappearance?  If you haven’t already read the book, or seen the movie, this plot twist will leave you reeling!

That’s all for now.  Until next time, happy reading!
