What it’s about:

Pepper is an overachiever, private school wunderkind.  She is swim team captain and she even heads up her family’s very successful fast food social media account.

Jack’s family owns a Manhattan deli, famous for their amazing, gourmet cheese sandwiches.  He attends school with Pepper, is co-captain, along with his twin brother, of the diving team.  Jack is the class clown, well-liked by everyone.  He is also a tech whiz.

So what happens when Pepper’s family’s restaurant begins making a cheese sandwich very similar to the  famous Grandma’s Special from Jack’s deli?  A Twitter-war run by these two precocious teens, although neither of them realize at first who they are up against.  Will their budding romance be ruined because of it?

What I thought:

This was a very cute story, reminding me in many ways of You’ve Got Mail, one of my all time favorite movies.  Every now and then I like to read YA novels like this one – fun and light – as a break from my regular reading.  This one did not disappoint.  I really liked Pepper and Jack and wanted them to get together.  I thought the social media theme was fun.  Their Twitter war went viral and got the attention of social media stars.  They even got “shipped” with the name Pepperjack – very cute!

I gave Tweet Cute 3 stars because I did think there were a lot of side story lines going on that kind of dragged it out too much.  Jack’s rivalry with his twin brother, Pepper’s rivalry with a girl from school, and then the baking blog.  I think the story may have been stronger without those pieces, but still, overall it was a very good read and I would recommend it if you are looking for a feel-good book that won’t take you long to read.
