About Me

Hello!  Thanks for visiting my blog.  It’s very new – and I am very new at this, so thanks in advance for your support!

The idea for this blog came because I realized how much my life has changed in the last few years.  I am a mom of two of the best kiddos you could find anywhere. My daughter is 20 and will be Junior in college this fall.  My son is 16 and just got a job, a girlfriend, and his driver’s license. Needless to say that my evening/weekend calendar has opened up quite a bit.

This was really hard on me for a long time.  I am a working woman and always have been. Between my demanding job, my husband, my kids, my house (you know the drill) I was always running around without a moment to think.  Then it suddenly all slowed wayyyyyy down and I found myself thinking, “Now what I am supposed to do?” It felt so strange not to have my family depend on me like they used to – I was pretty down about it for a while. But then I realized that free time wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. (LOL! I can’t believe I said that)  What I came to realize is that in the middle of taking care of everyone else’s pursuits, I had forgotten to keep my own.

That’s where this blog comes in.  I am writing this for the busy, working mom that wants to stay connected with her reading life, but just doesn’t have time, or when she does, doesn’t know where to start!  In this blog, I will use my newfound time to review the books I am reading to help you choose if you are looking to fit reading back into your life.

My Rating System for Books

5 Stars ***** – The BEST of the best

The books I rate as 5 stars were well written.  When I am done reading, I feel as if I learned something or look at something in a new or different way.  These books often make me feel things strongly – it’s not unusual that I either laughed or cried along with the characters.  These are books I would definitely read again; books that I want to talk about as soon as I finish.

4 Stars **** – Love this book

These books are usually fast-paced and ones I can’t put down.  They are well written, but may not have a message or something I can learn from.  Although I love the characters (or love to hate them) they aren’t real enough for me to feel big emotions over.  These are usually my fun reads.

3 Stars *** – Like this book

I rate books as three stars because I like the story, but there are a few things that didn’t sit right with me.  They may have a plot-line that is a little far-fetched, or minor characters that are unbelievable. Sometimes, the story may seem to drag in places.  I would still recommend these books, but with a caveat.

2 Stars ** – Disappointed by this book

Two stars mean that the story was uninteresting to me or that the characters were unbelievable or unlikable.   The subject matter may be offensive or maybe too “preachy” – like the author is trying to make me think in a certain way.  I would not recommend these books.

1 Star * – Could not finish

These are books that are so uninteresting to me, or so offensive, etc. that I could not even finish it.  Sometimes I don’t finish books because I don’t have time, but I mean to go back to them. These are books that I would never even go back to.

This blog will also house a Living Well section where I will be writing about my other pursuits, from decorating, to photography to cooking.  I am reclaiming my past interests and will share that journey with you.

Thanks so much for finding my blog and reading the About Me page.  I can’t wait to connect with you!

Love your rating system! I definitely need to do something like this on mine.

Thanks! It keeps me honest in my reviews:) Now I look back to see the rating system to make sure I’m not just coming off a “book high” – that it really did deserve 5 stars.
