Bring Me Back
by B.A. Paris
My rating:  3 out of 5 ***

This was the first book I have read by Paris, and although this book didn’t resonate with me, I don’t plan on giving up on her quite yet.  I have heard great things about her first novel, Behind Closed Doors.  It is sitting on my bookshelf right now, patiently waiting for me.

This book chronicles the disappearance of Finn’s girlfriend Layla, after a trip skiing in France.  As they returned to England, Finn pulled into a rest stop and when he returned, Layla was nowhere to be found.  Panicked, Finn searched for her but to avail.  She had completely vanished leaving all of her belongings behind. What happened to her?  Finn is devastated and for years kept searching and hoping.  Until one day, he finally decided to put closure on their relationship by planning a funeral service for her.

In walks Layla’s sister, Ellen.  Although not an instant attraction, Ellen being so different from Layla, Finn and Ellen fall in love and plan to get married.  Suddenly, out of nowhere, little Russian dolls begin popping up everywhere, in the mail, on the gate, at the restaurant they visit.  These dolls hold a special significance to Ellen and Layla, and only they and Finn know that. Where are the dolls coming from? Is Layla still alive?

B.A. Paris can tell a story.  It was easy to read and I found myself finishing the book in two days, even though the twist at the end seemed a little unimaginative and overdone.  The characters weren’t exactly likable either. I gave this 3 stars for storytelling and am looking forward to reading Paris’ earlier works.

Sorry you didn’t like this book! I always hate when books have such a pretty cover but they don’t turn out very well.

It was entertaining, just not my cup of tea. Lots of people like it though. Have you read anything by her?
