Sometimes I Lie
by Alice Feeney
My rating:  3 out of 5 ***

Wow!  Roller coaster ride!  As I was reading, I thought I had this book figured out very early on, and I felt “meh” about it.  It was good enough to keep reading, but then everything flipped upside down not once, but twice!  This book is certainly not missing the surprise factor.

Amber Reynolds is in a coma.  She knows she has been in some sort of accident, and she is aware of people around her, but she can’t move, she can’t speak, and she can’t remember how she got there.  What she does remember is that someone else caused this accident, and it might be her husband.

This story unfolds in three different times, current time while Amber is in the hospital, the recent past in the days before the accident, and in the distant past through diary entries from childhood.

I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars because it did start a little slowly and I wasn’t really liking the either of the main characters, Amber or her sister Claire.  I did like the book much better once things got going, but then I felt the author may have pushed the envelope a little too far in the last pages. The twist at the end leaves you feeling like, “Really?”

Would I recommend this book?  Yes!  The twists, if a little unbelievable, were fun and made this a quick and easy read.  However, there is a pretty explicit rape scene in the book.  If that is not for you, you may want to skip this one.

If this sounds like a book for you, you may also like Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman.

Thanks for reading this post!  Until next time, happy reading!
