The snow is piling up outside, the winter winds are blowing and the last thing you want to do is go anywhere.  Instead, why don’t you grab a hot chocolate, a blanket, and your favorite fuzzy slippers and curl up with one of these winter thrillers?

The Child Finder by Rene Denfield:Naomi Cottle finds children who are missing, and she takes the case of Madison Culver, who was lost in the Skookum National Forest three years ago.  As Naomi investigates, snippets of her own forgotten childhood start coming back to her.  Will she find Madison? And will finding Madison help Naomi find herself as well? This is a difficult read as it deals with child abduction, but the story is so well done – I couldn’t put it down!

I Remember You by Yrsa Sigurdardottir:  In this terrifying Icelandic Tale, three friends go to a remote location to renovate a rental house in the middle of winter.  They soon realize they are not alone. Meanwhile, in a nearby town, a detective is investigating a strange suicide. These two stories connect in an unbelievable way!  Based on a true story. This book was also made into a movie and is currently on Netflix, another great snow day activity!

An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena:  This fun, Agatha-Christie type mystery is about a group of people that vacation in the Catskill mountains.  The hotel is charming and quaint and the guests enjoy the cozy atmosphere. Until an ice storm hits, knocking out the power and closing all the roads.   The situation worsens when one guest winds up dead. And then two more. Who among them is a killer?

Tear Me Apart by JT Ellison: 17-year-old Mindy Wright is a competitive snow skier likely to make the Olympic team until she has a terrible accident.  At the hospital, doctors realize that there is more to worry about than just Mindy’s leg. She has an aggressive form of leukemia and will need a stem cell transplant if there is any hope at all of her getting better.  A long-kept secret is necessarily revealed – Mindy is adopted. Only Mindy’s mother, Lauren, knows the real truth, and everyone begins to suspect that she is keeping more information from them. Is Lauren’s silence an attempt to keep Mindy from being hurt, or is she hiding something more sinister?

Winter People by Jennifer McMahon:  Set in West Hall Vermont in 1908, Sarah’s daughter disappears from her farmhouse never to be heard from again.  Flash forward to today, Ruthie now lives in the house with her younger sister and mother. When her mother also disappears, Ruthie must find out what happened to her, and use the past to guide her.

Hope you enjoy these wintry reads!  Until next time, happy reading!
