I absolutely loved this fun, Agatha Christie-like murder mystery!   The story takes place in a remote hotel in upstate New York. It is the perfect getaway destination- far away from crowds and cell phone service., exactly what these guests wanted.  That is until one of them ends up dead in what seems to be a tragic accident. An ice storm hits and they are left without power or heat and with the roads being closed, there is no way to leave.  So the guests are left to stay in the cold, dark hotel with the dead body. They just begin to get comfortable again when a second body appears. Now the guests have to face the fact that there is a murderer among them.  Is it one of the guests? Or is there someone else in the hotel? And who will be next?

This book reminded me of And Then There Were None.  And although that premise has been repeated many times, this book did not seem overdone.  The characters were well developed, each with their own interesting back story. There was a lot of action in the book and the setting, besides the fact that it was a multiple-murder scene, was absolutely beautiful.  If it weren’t for all the dead bodies, I would want to go there! I love a good whodunit mystery, and I love to try and figure out who is the culprit, but this book had me guessing the entire way through. I could not figure it out!

I have read Shari Lapena before, but really this book is her best by far.  It was fast-paced and engaging – I couldn’t put it down! I highly recommend it to any Agatha Christie fan out there.  You won’t be disappointed!

If this seems like a good book for you, check out these titles as well!

I liked this one a lot, too! And I totally wanted to go on a weekend away to that inn, minus the dead bodies, lol. It seemed so lovely otherwise! I also noticed Agatha Christie-esque elements, though my notices were based on watching movies rather than reading her books. 😉 haha. My review and recipe for AN UNWANTED GUEST will be up next month.

Ooooh! I can’t wait to hear what you pair up with this book! Your recipes are always so yummy! And I have to admit, my knowledge of And Then There Were None is also through watching the movie. But I really enjoyed reading Orient Express, so I plan on reading more of her books this year.
