What it’s about:

If you leave a door half open soon you’ll hear the whispers spoken.

If your window’s left unlatched, you’ll hear him tapping at the glass.

Tom Kennedy and his son Jake, move to Featherbank after his wife dies so the two can make a fresh start.  However, Featherbank isn’t the idyllic town he was hoping for.  Twenty years ago, Frank Carter, AKA The Whisper Man, was arrested for luring young boys out of their homes at night and murdering them.  Soon after Tom and Jake move in, another boy goes missing, eerily similar to the Whisper Man’s M.O.   And then Jake begins to hear whispers, too….

Why I liked it:

This book had the perfect blend of suspense, plus a touch of supernatural thriller – it was exactly what I was looking for as a Halloween read!  Jake is a very sensitive boy who misses his mother terribly.  He has concocted an “imaginary friend” who talks to him and makes him feel less lonely.  But this imaginary friend begins to tell him things that he couldn’t possibly know and warns him of danger coming.  Jake also begins to see a boy in his new house.  This boy isn’t as nice as his “friend” and Jake dubs him “the boy in the floor”.

Again, just the perfect blend of spooky and suspense. It’s the kind of story that makes you sleep with the light on.   Once I started, I couldn’t put it down.  I was finished in two days.   I was very glad that I picked this one up.  This was a backlist title, but Alex North has a new book out this year, The Shadows.  I can’t wait to pick that one up!
