What it’s about:

Jessica Farris is young and broke and looking for a way to make ends meets.  When she hears about Dr. Shields’ research project, making money just by answering a few simple questions, she thinks she’s hit the jackpot.  But the questions aren’t few, and they aren’t simple. Questions like:

Could you tell a lie without feeling hurt?

Have you ever deeply hurt someone you care about?

Jessica answers the questions honestly and this brings her more deeply into Dr. Shields’ study.  But to what end? What is Dr. Shields’ doing with all of this information? Soon the elusive doctor is asking Jessica to do more than just answer questions.  Is Jessica getting in too deep?

Why I liked it:

I liked this dynamic author duo’s first book, The Wife Between Us, but this book hit it out of the ballpark.  It was a book I truly could not put down because I just had to find out what was going on with Dr. Shields. And every time I thought I had it all figured out, the plot twists threw me for another loop.  I could never tell who I was able to trust in this book – Dr. Shields seemed untrustworthy from the beginning, but I started to wonder if it was really her or could Jessica be making it up? Then there was Thomas… could he be trusted?  I didn’t know which end was up in this book, which is why it made so fun to read.

This is my first 5 star book of the year, and it fully deserves the 5 star rating – the BEST of the best.  It’s the kind of book that you want to discuss immediately after you finish reading because you just need to talk about all the crazy twists.  I’m not in a book club, but this book made me wish that I was because it would have made great conversation. Plus there were so many nuances that I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss something!

Some books are hyped up in social media, and then are a big disappointment.  This book was not one of those. It truly deserves all the hype around it and if you like thrillers at all, I highly suggest that you try this one out.  It won’t disappoint!

Other books like this one:

Lying in Wait by Liz Nugent
Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman
Tear Me Apart by JT Ellison
