The Perfect Girlfriend by Karen Hamilton

What do you do when the love of your life breaks up with you?  Why you win him back, of course! And Juliette will stop at nothing to make sure she gets Nate back.  She enters into an elaborate and lengthy plan to make him see that she is absolutely perfect for him – the perfect girlfriend.  And while she waits for him to wake up, she entertains herself by sneaking into his apartment for the weekend while he is away (she never said she gave him back ALL his keys), or plotting against his sister who was mean to her in school.  In short, she is a very busy person! This twisted book will keep you reading, just to see what Juliette will do next. It’s written in first person narrative, so we get good insight into what is going through her mind. And while you know all along that she certifiably nuts, you can’t help but have a tiny bit of respect for her.  She is certainly tenacious and her plots, if extreme and undeniably stalkerish, are well thought out. This was such a fun book, it will keep you hoping that the rain doesn’t stop!

When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger

The Devil Wears Prada is one of my favorite movies and books.  So I was so excited when I read that this book features Emily Charlton, Miranda Priestley’s ex-assistant.  In this book, Emily and her husband move from the city to lush and expensive suburb of Greenwich, Connecticut.  There, Emily tries to salvage her consulting business, which is being threatened by an up-and-coming younger firm.

Meanwhile, one of Emily’s friends, Miriam is facing her own set of Greenwich problems.  She has left her high-powered position at a law firm to stay at home with her children. But this transition wasn’t as easy as she thought it would be and she begins to wonder if her husband was really on board.

Karolina, a former Runway supermodel, is now living in Greenwich with her Senator husband, Graham, who is planning a presidential run.  But he is also planning a few personal things, as Karolina comes to find out. As she was driving her stepson and his friends to school one day, she was pulled over and arrested for drunk driving.  The only problem was she hadn’t had a drink!

These women band together in this fun, lululemon- clad tale.  Together, they navigate the elite life in Greenwich and through their own problems in a way that would make even Miranda Priestley proud!

No Exit by Taylor Adams

College student, Darby Thorne, plans on driving home for Christmas break to see her dying mother.  She has to go through Colorado and unfortunately, one of the worst snow storms Colorado has seen in awhile. When the roads become impassable, Darby pulls off at a rest stop, hoping to wait it out in some warmth.  But what she sees there puts a chill in her bone. There is a little girl locked in a cage in the back of a van. Darby has to figure out which of the other waiting travelers owns that van and how to get the little girl out of the van and to safety.

There are so many twists and turns in this book, it will keep you gasping in surprise.  You can feel the tension rise as you root for Darby to help that little girl and with each obstacle Darby faces your heart clenches knowing she will be stuck in that van even longer.  This book is a rollercoaster ride of action and suspense. A perfect thriller for a rainy day.

What She Knew by Gilly MacMillan

It’s every mother’s nightmare.  You take your son to the park, get distracted for a few minutes, then turn around to find he’s gone.  Rachel is devastated when her son, Ben, disappears while taking a walk in the woods. The search for him, led by DI Clemo, begins and the case becomes a national story. Public opinion plays a significant role as people share their opinions over social media.  Rachel, just overcoming a devastating divorce, has to pull herself together to find her son, and examine what she’s known all along. This book will keep you hooked on a rainy day, so make sure you have plenty of time when you sit down to read it!

The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh

Victoria, 18 years old and recently emancipated from the foster care system has nowhere to go.  She has lived a hard life and has been moved around so much throughout her childhood that she now finds it hard to attach herself to anyone.  But she finds a way to express herself through flowers. Victoria gets a job in a flower shop and learns that in the Victorian age, each flower held a special meaning, red roses mean love, yellow roses mean infidelity, asters mean patience, etc.   Her thoughtfully arranged flowers become a hit, and many people come to buy them. Has she finally found a way to connect? This book is a story of survival and love told through the language of flowers.

That’s all for today, until next time, happy reading!
