What it’s about:

Shay Miller is a lonely young woman living in NYC.  She longs for friendship and to feel like she fits in but nothing ever seems to work out for her.  One day as she was waiting for her train, she witnesses a suicide.  This traumatic event changes Shay’s life in ways she couldn’t possibly imagine.

Shay meets the beautiful Moore sisters who take her under their wing.  They help her with what to wear, where to live, even which purses to carry.  For the first time, Shay feels as if she is part of a group and that she belongs.  But soon the reader gets the sense that the Moors sisters are plotting against Shay.  As the story unfolds, we get to know better the sisters, Shay and Amanda, the young woman who committed suicide.  The plot unfolds in a way that can only end badly.

Why I liked it:

This story unfolded slowly and clues to what was really going on between Shay and the sisters were laid out intermittently.  As the book went on, the story became more and more intriguing and I found that the more read, the more I liked it.  The end especially, was suspenseful and very well done.

Why I didn’t like it:

I was a big fan of Anonymous Girl and really liked The Wife Between Us, both books by these authors, so I was very excited to begin this book.  It didn’t however, really hit the mark for me.  I found it hard to get into.  However, as I mentioned before, this book was a slow burn and really built up momentum as it went along.  By the end, I was hooked.  If you are the kind of reader that can muscle through some slow parts, then I would recommend this book.  Otherwise, I would try their earlier works.
