What it’s About

Laurie sees the love of her life at a bus stop.  They exchange looks, a smile and then lightning strikes.  The bus pulls away leaving him at the curb and her on the bus.  Laurie spends an entire year looking for her mystery man, certain that they are destined to be together.  And destiny does bring Jack back into her life, although not in the way either of them thought.

This book chronicles ten years of Laurie and Jack’s friendship – as they learn to come to terms with the reality that Jack is dating Laurie’s best friend, as they maneuver through the more difficult times of their live personally and professionally, as new people enter their lives and shift their reality again.

What I Liked About It

This sweet love story takes a different path than a lot of the romance stories I read in the past.  There are twists and turns along the way and circumstances that made even me, the reader, contemplate and question which is right path for these two to take.

I loved all the main characters in this book.  I loved Laurie and Jack, of course. But I also loved Sarah, Laurie’s best friend.  She was a great person, and a great friend to Laurie. Plus she was fun. Laurie and Sarah had a great relationship, which is why you find it hard hoping that Sarah and Jack will break up.  It seems wrong somehow.

I also loved Laurie’s love interest, Oscar.  He is such a sweet man, (although his mother is terrible) and he loves Laurie so much.  What they have is so simple and easy. It’s how love should be. Plus, he’s handsome and rich and what’s not to love about that?  🙂

This book will have you rooting for all the characters and finding that you have trouble deciding who should stay together and who should break up.  It’s not a simple, straightforward love story. It’s sticky and hard, like love often is.

What I Didn’t Like About It- (SPOILER ALERT- don’t read further if you want to find out for yourself what happens)

I didn’t like Oscar’s sudden obsession with his business and his non-affair with his ex-girlfriend.  It seemed like an easy way out for the author to get Laurie and Jack together. She did a much better job with Jack and Sarah’s break-up, which seemed more real.

I also didn’t like the divorce after 8 months of marriage.  That also doesn’t seem real for Laurie’s character – to give up so easily.  I think it would have been more interesting to have them stay together and have Jack come to terms with a new kind of friendship with Laurie.  But I guess that’s not how romance novels go!

I did like the way that Laurie and Jack got together in the end.  It was very romantic!
