Final Girls
by Riley Sager
My Rating:  **** out of 5 stars

Final girls – the term used to reference girls that survive a horror-story massacre.  They are the last ones standing – the ones that lived through the terror to see all their friends die.

Quincy Carpenter is a final girl.  Ten years ago, she went on a camping trip with a few college friends when they were all brutally massacred by a runaway patient from a local mental hospital.  Needless to say, this experience devastated Quincy, so much so, that she completely blocked out all memories of that night. The only thing she can remember is running into the arms of a policeman, blood-soaked, and begging for help.

Quincy is not the only final girl.  There are two others – Lisa, a survivor from a sorority massacre and Sam, the survivor of a motel killing spree.  And although Quincy doesn’t keep in touch with these women, they share an uncommon bond as they deal with the aftermath of their tragic past.

Since that night, Quincy has been trying to rebuild her life.  She has a loving boyfriend, Jeff, a popular food blog and the moral support of the officer that saved her life, Coop.  Things are looking up for Quincy until she hears that Lisa has died, taking her own life. Then, Sam shows up at her door, wanting a place to stay.

Things start to slowly spiral out of control as Quincy becomes more and more influenced by Sam.  But after one late night in Central Park, Quincy realizes that Sam may not be everything she claims to be.  And she begins to question whether Lisa’s death was really a suicide.

I picked this book up after reading The Last Time I Lied, Sager’s newest book, earlier this year.  This book did not disappoint. It was fast-paced and intriguing, everything you want from a thriller.  I have found another favorite author in Sager and look forward to reading more books by his in the future.
